stop后接不定式和动名词的用法区别

动词stop后既可接不定式也可接动名词，不仅意思不同，而且性质也不同：

(1) 后接动名词时，意思是“停止做某事”，其中的动名词是宾语，表示“停止”的对象。如：

It’s about time you stopped being so idle. 你饱食终日无所事事这下该改一改了吧。

Let’s stop chatting and get down to basics. 我们别再闲聊了，静下心来干些要紧的事吧。

Her story was so funny that we couldn’t stop laughing. 她讲了个非常滑稽的故事，使我们笑个不停。

The little horror never stops playing tricks on his parents. 那个小淘气不断地捉弄他的父母。

 (2) 后接不定式时，意思是“停下来去做某事”，其中的不定式不是宾语，而是状语，表示目的。如：

Very few ever stopped to listen. 很少人停下来听。

He stopped to rest his horse. 他停下来让马休息一会儿。

The bus stopped to pick up passengers. 公共汽车停下来接客。

Jeff stopped to get a drink of water. 杰夫停下来喝了杯水。

On the way to the station I stopped to buy a paper. 在去火车站的路上，我停下来买了一张报纸。
