该习语表示要做的工作还有很多，都堆积到耳朵或眼睛那么高了，喻指"人忙得不可开交"。例如:I'm up in the ears in work at the moment.(我现在工作忙极了。）

A: 你最近好像忙得不可开交。在干什么呢？

B: I've been preparing for entrance examination.
B: 我一直在准备入学考试。

A: Well, you must have adequate preparation.
