The heads of the three U.S. congressional committees have sent a subpoena or legal order to the White House, demanding documents for their impeachment campaign, investigation of President Trump. He is accused of pushing Ukraine to produce information that could damage his rival Joe Biden's presidential run. The president has denied any wrongdoing.

Doctors in the United States have confirmed that the left-wing presidential contender Bernie Sanders had a heart attack on Tuesday. The U.S. Senator who is 78, was released from hospital in Las Vegas on Friday and issued a statement, saying he was feeling great.

Iraqi officials say at least 60 people are now known to have died during four days of anti-government protests across the country. Hundreds were injured. Many of the deaths occurred on Friday, including those of at least two police officers.

The digital payments company PayPal says it has pulled out of a Facebook-led alliance, which is trying to introduce a digital currency called Libra. The project has drawn opposition from some countries and central banks with France and Germany, saying they would block Libra from operating in Europe.

Transport unions in Ecuador have suspended their strike over the government's decision to scrap fuel subsidies, which has prompted widespread violent protest. The head of a federation representing 11 transport unions said they had achieved their aims. Nearly 400 people have been arrested during two days of nationwide protest against the removal of subsidies, which resulted in a doubling of the price of diesel.

The American actress Diahann Caroll has died in Los Angeles at the age of 84. She was the first black woman to star in a lead role in a U.S. TV series in "Julia", which was screened in the 1960s. Diahann Carol was also the first black woman to win a Tony award for Best Actress for her part in the Broadway musical "No Strings".
