The Islamic State group says it carried out Tuesday's attack on a military base in Niger, the deadliest since the Islamist militant violence began there in 2015. The government says more than 70 soldiers were killed in the assault near the border with Mali. Three days of national mourning have been declared.
In a high-risk operation, the New Zealand military have landed on White Island to retrieve eight unrecovered bodies of people killed when the volcano erupted on Monday. They said to be a 50-to-60 percent chance of another eruption over the next a few hours.
A deadly attack on a kosher grocery store in the United States on Monday is being treated as active domestic terrorism. New Jersey's attorney general said that based on the evidence and interviews with witnesses, the two suspects held views reflecting hatred of Jewish people and law enforcement authorities.
