Military sources in Niger say more than 60 people have been killed in a Jihadist attack on a military base near the border with Mali. Islamist militants are reported to shell the camp, causing fuel and ammunition to explode. Islamist attacks in regions closed to Mali have increased significantly, since Malian forces recently withdrew from their side of the border.
The upper house of India’s parliament has passed a controversial bill to fast-track citizenship claims for immigrants but only for non-Muslims. It will make it easier for minorities from neighboring Muslim majority countries to become Indian nationals. The government has denied accusations that it’s discriminatory, saying it’s meant to help minority’s fueling persecution.

Bosnia has begun dismantling tents left behind of the makeshift migrant camp of Vucjak. Hundreds of people were transferred by bus from the camp to the capital Sarajevo on Tuesday. Rights groups have criticized the conditions in the camp.
Archeologists in northern Ethiopia have unearthed remains of an ancient city, the earliest parts of which date back to the 8th century BC. The town, known as Beta Samati, was inhabited for 1400 years. It was part of the Aksum empire described as one of the world’s most important ancient civilizations.
