Hello, This is David Austin with the BBC News.

Officials in Afghanistan say a passenger plane has crashed in the central province of Ghazni. They said the aircraft caught fire after it crashed in the Deh Yak district. There's no immediate Information on civilian casualties. The area is under Taliban control.

A wreath-laying ceremony has taken place at the former NAZI German concentration camp of Auschwitz in southern Poland at the start of commemorations to mark the 75th anniversary of its liberation by the Soviet Army. More than a million, mostly Jewish prisoners were murdered at the camp. The BBC's Adam Easton is there. They walked towards what is known as the Wall of Death. This is the wall where prisoners in Auschwitz were executed with a single shot, and they laid wreaths and candles at that wall. There are about 200 survivors who are attending the ceremony today. To put that in comparison, there was 1500 fifteen years ago, 300 a year ago, many of them elderly, frail in the seventies, eighties, and nineties, and taken tremendous courage for many of them to come back to Auschwitz. People have been telling me that they couldn't even speak to their own families about what had happened to them for 50 years.

Leading basketballers, sports stars, celebrities and politicians have been paying tribute to Kobe Bryant, who died when his helicopter crashed outside Los Angeles. His longtime teammate for the L.A. Lakers, Shaquille O'Neal, said there were no words to express his pain at the loss while the former president Barack Obama said Kobe Bryant had been a legend on the court. Crowds at basketball matches across the United States observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to the man many called for Black Mamba. Gary Vitti was a trainer for the Lakers for 32 years. In an emotional interview with CBS, he spoke about his loss. The world knows the Black Mamba. I know that guy too. There's another person that is a human being and his name is Kobe Bryant. He is the father of four girls and husband of Vanessa and that guy, not the Mamba, but that guy.
