Iphone4上市引发全球销售热潮
They lined up for Harry Potter books, for Beatles albums, for a precious ticket at Wimbledon. Some people will queue day and night for that priced possession or experience. Some are even prepared to go a step further like these iPhone fans. They've travelled to London to be the first in line for the latest model, the iPhone 4.
"My sister and I travel from Dubai to be here today for the iPhone 4 launch because it's not launching in Canada until next month and not launching in Dubai until months later." "But why can't you wait four weeks?" "Well, the thing is we really want this one feature on the iphone 4. It's called FaceTime, and what you can do with FaceTime is basically you are able to use the front facing camera and be able to web-conference with other people using that same technology."
"I am from Holland." "You are from Holland?" "Yeah." "You come all the way from Holland for the iPhone 4?" "Yeah, but it's not for myself, it’s for a friend of mine, but he is very busy."
They don't mind sleeping on the street for the night.
"No, no, no, I don't want to wait like..." "But why do you have to have one now when it first.." "Because like I have been using all the versions of phones. I never use iPhone before. But when I want to use it, I just want to use the latest one. So like I am here."
"I've got an iPhone and my ipod Touch and ipod Nano, ipod Classic. List goes on and on. Apple, what else to say?"
"Well, I couldn't wait to assess it. I want one now."
Queuing or waiting in line because they want to. Some people get it. Some don't.
"The psychology of queuing may be centers around fair play. It centers around satisfaction. If people know how long they are going to wait, they are gonna be far more satisfied if people don't know how long they are going to wait. They are going to be dissatisfied."
The British are known as a nation that queues, may be with all that wartime rationing, but modern queuing is very different.
"It is breeded in our society. It's almost that they have certain values and norms of behavior being thrown out of the window. People have changed. The whole social make-ups have changed of the British per se and you could say that it's indicative of many cultures."
"Well, I think we are all a little bit selfish. And why not, I want to treat myself."
Whether it's tickets for a sport event, the latest books, video games or gadgets, it's all a matter of "want", not "need". And for the people who need the most, who can not wait to get their hands on it, are prepared to wait in line for as long as it takes.
