美著名外交官里查德·霍尔布鲁克病逝

2010-12-27来源:和谐英语

He was a teamplayer, and he understood that is the way you are effective as diplomat and that's your obligation as a diplomat. uh, and so, he would, his style will be to express his views forcefully in the internal processes of the US government, but then to carry out the decision, but there's no doubt that he was a big skepitic of the stratege that is now being followed, and certainly, and those things that he was skeptical of, but the stratege requires an Afgan partner. And he had gone to Afganistan many times before untaking this assignment again as a private citizen.

He thought early on like that Karzal, Harmy Karzel was corrupted, ineffective, incapable of reform. He would, he wanted to do much more about the fraudulent presidential election. But in the end it was overruled by higher ups in the Obama administration and he liked, the good, liked what, any good diplomat should, he carried out the instruction that he was given.

Richard though, was close to indispensible, he, I don't think we're gonna be easy to find anybody who appreciate, and has such good sense of different actors of what their interests are, uh, somebody who has this energy and certainly, somebody who could get the US government to focus and mobilize the resource. He's... he's built a terrific step because he's never solo operated, understood the support, the importance of people who are with them. But then those poeple who're royal to him, I think it's gonna be very tough for any replacement to be able to mobilize those poeple and use them in the same way. Holbrooke could mobilize a lot of people, that's a tough thing for people to do in government.
