伦敦奥运会进入最后一百天

2012-04-21来源:CRI

"Welcome. Welcome to London. We are ready to welcome the world."

That's the message the organizers are sending to the world as the Olympic Games draw ever closer.

Paul Deighton is Chief Executive of the London Organizing Committee.

"Though it may only be 100 days to go or 14 more Wednesdays as I'd like to think about it, we still have an enormous amount to do. Those are 160 tough training sessions in front of us because that's exactly what we still have to grapple with the organizers."

The sessions will involve some 70-thousand volunteers from 70 different countries, all of whom have gone through their first wave of training.

Other work to be done includes hosting 11 more test events, on top of completing the installation of 6 more temporary venues.

"I'm delighted to be able to announce today that we've got a fantastic curtain raiser just before the ceremony starts. The Red Arrows will be doing a fly-pass to welcome the world right over all our live sites in Glasgow, Belfast, Swansea, and London. That's a quintessentially British way to herald the start of the Games."

The London Organizing Committee also has announced the slogan for this summer's event:

Inspire a Generation.

LOCOG Chair Sebastian Coe.

"If you press me on that, of course I want more young people taking up sport but not just actively or competitively in sport. I want a generation of physical education teachers. I'd like to think we might even inspire a generation of good sports writing and sports reporters in sorts of media. Maybe that's a wish too far. I don't necessarily just want to see that in sport. I think the things we've done through our education program tell me that the Olympic and Paralympic values for young people are often a metaphor for life."

As part of the celebrations to mark the 100 day countdown, an oak tree has been planted to celebrate Britain's role in the birth of the modern Olympic movement.
