The woman whostabbed him in the back has had the same done to her. In a snap ballot, JulieGillard lost leadership of the labor party, 57 votes to 45.

“In the years inwhich I’ve served as prime minister, predominately I have faced a minorityparliament, and I’ve also faced internal division within my political party, itis not being an easy environment to work in, but I am pleased that in theseenvironment which wasn’t easy, I have prevailed to ensure that this country ismade stronger and smarter and fairer for the future. I am very proud of whatthis government has achieved which will endure for a long term.“

Australia’s miningboom is meant to strong economy with low unemployment, but it wasn’t enough tosave Julie Gillard.

“I will not belectured about sexism and misogyny by these men, I will not.”

Her misogyny speechlast year won plaudits, but policy U-turns and her public image were herstumbling blob. This week, a photo of her knitting a kangaroo for theforthcoming royal baby caused ridicule. And the Australian media plunged newdepth in attacking her.

This was KevinRudd’s 3rd attempt to seizing power, the Gillard-Rudd infighting had becomesomething of a political circus, the Australian public will be relieved, thatat least is finally over.

Opposition leaderTony Abbott is watching on with interest, he’s still likely to win the upcominggeneral election convincingly, meaning Kevin Rudd may be prime minister forjust a matter of weeks.
