CBS is deadlockedwith Time Warner Cable over the cost the cable provider pays to carry CBSnetworks, including Showtime. There was a brief blackout Monday night, whenTime Warner Cable dropped CBS and Showtime for less than 30 minutes.
Time is running out.
Both sides areairing ads to win over consumer support, but public interest group say the onlylosers in this dispute are the consumers.
These disputes arebecoming more and more common, there’s game playing on both sides. But thelarger issue is it’s the consumer that lands up without their favoriteprograming.
Time Warner Cableand CBS aren’t the first duo to play this game of chicken. Almost 14million Dish network subscribers lost AMC owned networks for more than 3 monthslast year, that meant no Mad Men, no Breaking Bad.
So who paysin the end? We do. The average monthly cable bill for expanded basic servicewas up 4.8% to $61.63 in 2011, and the more premium channels charge companies,the more they end up charging us.
