印度热浪死亡人数增至2207
The death toll of the heat wave spreading across India has risen to over 22-hundered.
Local meteorological officials report that a high temperature of 47.1 degrees Celsius has been recorded at the country's central state.
Professor at Allahabad University, Dr Sumeet Dwivedi, says cooling monsoon rains will fall in southern India next week, and further ease the weeks-long heat wave.
"The Kerala coast is most likely to receive the monsoon rainfall on June 1. Between June 1 and 5, the monsoons will start in Kerala. And it is expected to reach Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh) between June 15 to June 20 for sure. There are also chances of one or two pre-monsoon showers."
The monsoon season is expected to last until the end of September.
Currently, showers and thunderstorms in some parts of southern India have alleviated the heat wave.
