一人致力于使用无人机保卫美国和墨西哥边境

“This is a Bebop 2, French design, it’s got sensors on the bottom, like a little sonar, it’s got a camera, OK?”

Glenn Spencer is no border patrol agent, but that hasn’t stopped him from developing his own drone technology on the US-Mexico border.

“The computer is looking at five miles of information, and then when something happens, the algorithm says, ‘Hey, there’s people out there.’”

For Spencer, whose organization American Border Patrol is listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, every mission carries dire consequences for undocumented crossers who have risked it all crossing the treacherous Sonoran Desert.

Although he has lost count, he boasts having reported hundreds of undocumented crossers over a span of fifteen years.

“Ok, Chad…”

Spencer says he has put one million dollars of his own money into his operation on the border. He considers the work the reason why he is here on earth.

“I just kept digging and digging and digging, the more I dug, the uglier it became.”

Spencer’s mission is to review the so-called truth about illegal immigration. But his claim derange from far-fetched to outright conspiratorial, including his belief that Mexicans are plotting to overtake the American southwest by infiltrating the US electret.

He laments that demographics are changing so that white people will no longer be in the majority.

“This is not natural, most of this is because of illegal immigration. And what they called anchor babies, and then family reunification.I think we have to put a stop to this because if you get a power block of Hispanics, they’ve said this themselves, they’re gonna be a swing vote.”

Community organizer Juanita Molina says there are many like-minded residents along the southern border who see otherness in migrants.

“You do see this, you see this trend, and you can see this in this presidency, a culture of scarcity. This feeling that the America that they want new is slipping away. And it’s being stolen by, you know, this very reason of phobic view, this racist view of people who are coming across.”

Mo Goldman, a first-generation immigration attorney says vigilantes like Spencer are out there.

“Their viewpoint is,‘Hey, we’re patriotic,We’re gonna, you know, seal up the border, we’re gonna catch these people, and we’re gonna call the border patrol.’You know if that’s what they want to do, fine.I think a lot of people in this community think that that is not the right thing to do and they reject that mentality.”

Following the US selection, Spencer’s company show signs of slowing. He says his donations have nosedived from immigration hardliners who feel they finally have a President who will get tough on the border.

But with or without support, Spencer has no plans on quitting, as long as he has a drone, he still holds power.
