Trump announced Thursday that he’s issuing an executive order to all departments and agencies in the federal government to provide the Department of Commerce with the records on the status of people living in the United States. As a result of today’s executive order, we will be able to ensure the 2020 census generates an accurate count of how many citizens, non-citizens and illegal aliens are in the United States of America, not too much to ask. Trump said the information collected in this manner will be more accurate and comprehensive than what answering a single question through the census could produce. We will utilize these vast federal databases to gain a full complete and accurate count of the non-citizen population, including databases maintained by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration. We have great knowledge in many of our agencies. We will leave no stone unturned. Trump said the information on citizenship of the US population is vital in formulating sound public policy, whether the issue is health care, education, civil rights or immigration. He blamed Democrats for blocking this effort. Far left Democrats in our country are determined to conceal the number of illegal aliens in our midst.

There are concerns that the Trump administration could use the citizenship data to channel public funds away from cities with large numbers of immigrants to areas where voters tend to support Republicans. The information is likely to be used for redistricting of state populations in favor of the Republican Party, says demographer William Frey. What that would do would be cut out the representation of young children who are not yellow, old enough to vote and racial minorities who are not citizens, and what would actually serve to make districts that were much more favorable to the Republican Party because people who are voting Republican these days tend to be older and whiter and more rural. Frey said census information is used to draw legislative district within States usually based on the total population, but using only citizen population counts and eliminating people who cannot vote would create legislative districts with fewer minorities and more people who tend to vote Republican. Trump and Attorney General William Bar said the citizenship question was perfectly legal, but a legal process to prove it could not be completed before the census.
