本集简介：

Carol breastfeeds Ben, causing Joey and Chandler discomfort. However, even stronger reactions occur when Ross is taking care of Ben and Phoebe checks the temperature of the bottled breast milk by tasting it. Julie invites Monica to go shopping; Rachel finds out and feels betrayed. Joey's status as the Bijan Cologne Man is threatened when his department store hires someone to be the Hombre Man. Rachel tries to be nicer to Julie, but is less than sincere.

例句中的guts实在是个有趣的词，它的本义是医学术语gastrointestinal tract(胃肠管道)的一个简单说法。在这个例句中，hate one's guts是美国俚语，意思是“对某人恨之入骨”。

不过，在大多数英语国家，“guts”is a slang term meaning courage(勇气)or fortitude(坚强的意志)。如，Friends的第4季第16集中，有一段Chandler和Rachel的对话：

Chandler：What are you writing?

Rachel：Well，Joshua's coming in tomorrow and since I don't have the guts

to ask him out，I'm going to sell him a coat and put this note in the pocket．

在中文里，“胆子”也有“勇气”的意思!甚至在我们国家有些地区，方言中“有肚渣子”也表示有“有勇气、有胆量”。由此可见，汉语和英语中有一部分的表达法是惊人得相似，有时“望文生义”也是行得通的。例如：

lose face(丢面子)；Walls have ears．
(隔墙有耳)；be armed to the teeth(武装到牙齿)；Blood is thicker than water．(血浓于水)；go in one ear and out thc other(左耳朵进右耳朵出)等等。

不过大多数情况下，
“望文生义”是不可行的，翻译的时候归化法(domesticating translation)让读者感到亲切，适度的异化(foreignizing translation)又可以带来异国语言的“洋气”。
