The One With The Home Study
Phoebe and Mike, stunned by the expenses involved with a wedding, decide they'll get married in City Hall and give the money to charity. Once they donate it, Phoebe changes her mind and they ask for it back. But Phoebe is still unsure. The adoption agency sends a woman (Laura) to evaluate Chandler and Monica and their home. They want everything to go perfectly, so when it turns out that Laura had a bad dating experience with Joey, they pretend not to know him. Joey manages to turn the situation around and make Laura think she wronged him. Rachel freaks out when Ross wants to take Emma to the playground, due to her childhood hair-related playgound accident. Ross convinces her it will be okay, so they all go together. Ross gets kicked in the head by a kid on the swings.

Phoebe: We, you know, we're different! We don't care about having a huge party. (She picks up the veil) This is really nice for you, but, oh, please, I put this on? (she puts it on) And, ow, I look (she looks her reflex image on a toaster), why, well, radiant. (pause) All right, well, who cares, I don't need a pretty veil and a fancy dress.
Monica: That's right. You're making a commitment and that's the same, whether you do that at the Plaza or, where are you gonna do it?
Phoebe: City Hall.
I don’t much care about having a date with him.(我不太想和他约会。)再如:We didn't really care (about)whether we-won or lost the game.(我们实际上并不在乎这场比赛的输赢。)
Who cares? I may fail this test.Well。who cares?I am not alone.(这个考试,我可能会挂。
I don't really care for tea,but coffee better.(我其实不喜欢喝茶,更喜欢喝咖啡。)She cares for him very much.(她非常喜欢他。)
Address my mail in carc of Mary.(我的邮件请由玛丽转交。)
I am a grown-up now.
I can take care of myself.(我是个成年人了,可以自己照顾自己。) Take care of the pence and the pounds will take care of themselves.(节约便士,金镑自然会积累起来。)
Take care!(保重!)
对day care(日托)和 heahh care(卫生保健)大家也应该有所了解。例如:The day care and the health care are more and more popular with the working parcnts.(日托和卫生保健日益受到上班族的青睐。)
Rachel: Ross, see! I told you, those swings are evil! Alright, that is it. That is the last time Emma is getting on one of those things for her entire life.
Ross: No! No, no, no, no, okay, it wasn't the swing's fault. It was my fault and kind of that (point to the kid that kicked him) kids fault. Who is still laughing. Nice.
Rachel: Ross, c'mon, please. Can we just get out of here, before somebody else gets hurt?
Do you mind if I have the last chocolate?(你介意我把最后一块巧克力吃了吗?) He laughs best who laughs last.那么,have/get the last laugh就意为“取得最后胜利,笑在最后”。
另外,不论是在写作中还是在口语中都常见到“last but not least”(importantly, despite being mentioned after others:尽管最后提到,但同样重要。)例如,I would like to thank my family,my colleagues and, last but not least,my fans.(我要感谢我的家人.
(It’s the last straw that breaks the camel's back.)例如:Losing my job was bad enough, but being dumped by my boy friend at this moment was the final straw".(被炒鱿鱼,已经够惨的了。
另一个口语中常说的是“the last person/thing...”(最不…… The last thing I hope is to make you unhappy.(我最不希望的是让你不开心。) Enough is enough You are the last person I wanna meet again in the world.(我受够了。
His wife always has the last word in the family. The UN has the last word on this issue.
Joey: Everything doesn't sound fine!
Laura: Is he alright out there by himself?
Chandler: Oh yeah! He has a caretaker. His older brother... Ernie.
Laura: Bert and Ernie!
Chandler: (nervous smile) You can't make this stuff up!
Chandler: (escorting Joey to the door) You have to get out of here. You slept with our social worker and you never called her back and she is still pissed, so she can't see you.
Joey: Ok, ok! (He leaves)
She seemed a bit pissed off that she hadn’t been invited.
He’d kept me watiting for a whole day in vain, and this really pissed me off.
此外,还有一些表示相近意思的常用的口语表达方式,比如:bcing mad at, being annoyed ,being bothered, being didturbcd, got fed up Wlth it,bcing sick of等等。例如:
I am so sick of this food servicc here.I am never ever gonna come here agam.
The teachcr was mad at me bccause of my abscnce.
These flies are annoying me.
Ross: See?
Rachel: A-alright! I can do this.
Ross: There you go! Good for you! And you know what, I'm actually getting used to this little guy. I don't really even feel him in here anymore.
Rachel: That's because he's on your neck.
讲解
There you go! “There you go.” 此外,在日常生活的交谈中,和“There you go!”一样,“Here yOU go.”
“Good job!
There you go!(你说的对。) 这句跟You are right.以及You got that right. 美国人讲话时很喜欢用There you go!
A:This concert is pretty impressive.
B:There you go!
You bet!You can say that again.(一点没错!)
“There you go.” “There you go.” 或“That's it.” 另外,电台的点歌节目DJ(Disc Jockey)在播放音乐之前都会说“There you go.”
如,Hi,there. 还有There,there!
