野生动物的最后100次心跳 (一)
The title of the documentary and the book--100 Heartbeats--came from an article that I read when I was an undergraduate student. I was at Bridgewater State College. I started doing a lot of field work and conservation work, mostly in Central and South America. And I came across this article in Time magazine written by E. O. Wilson, who is a famous, highly respected scientist, certainly an idle and an icon for me. And basically in his article, he touches on this idea of 100 heartbeats: that we could be very close in the near future to a time in our lives, and our lifetimes where some species could be pushed to the point where there were just 100 individuals or less. I thought about that. I felt that some day, even though I didn't have a career in television yet. I hadn't embarked on doing documentaries. I knew that some day in my life, I would revisit that idea of 100 heartbeats. So I think that that article, his work with the inspiration that sent me on this global odyssey both for the book, for Rodale and for the MSNBC documentary.
