Hemophilia is a rare blood disorder, and people born with this condition have little or no clotting factor, a protein that controls bleeding.
About one in ten-thousand people are born with this disease. After suffering injuries, they tend to bleed for longer periods of time than others, or bruise without obvious causes. This can damage organs, and may be life threatening. Hemophilia can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on how much clotting factor is present in one's blood. Most of victims of this currently incurable condition are male.
The National Hemophilia Information Management Center says there are nearly 8,000 registered cases in China. The majority of people with the disease are able to lead normal lives, with regular care and treatment.
