发改委:地方政府债务在可控范围

More on China's local debt issues, and the country's top economic planning agency, the National Development and Reform Commission, says the situation is under control.

The NDRC says it will steadily increase the issuance of urban construction investment bonds, since Chinese local governments are barred by law from issuing debt. And the Commission will also limit total local government debts at 100 percent of their revenue.

China reported local government debt of over 10 trillion yuan, or 1.6 trillion U.S. dollars, by the end of 2010. The country issued almost 350 billion yuan of urban construction investment bonds in the five years to 2010.
