丑闻让慈善机构收到的捐款下降

The figure on the screen 87% shows how public donations have dropped since the "Guo Meimei incident" that happened in June. According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, total donations to charities from June to August dropped to 840 million yuan from 6.26 billion between March and May. That means a decrease of 86.6 percent. Over the same period, donations to government organizations increased from 7 billion yuan to 9 billion yuan, and donations to individuals increased from 39 million to 127 million yuan.

Song Zonghe, director from the Charity and Donation Information Center, said, "Judging from data collected from March to August, total amount of public donations remained the same, although a large portion of this is shifting from charities to government organizations or individuals.

This drop shows people's distrust of charities in China. On the positive side, we can see that the drive for donation remains strong, but the down side is that the government and individuals are not professionals. Large donations to these two sources are likely to result in a slow-down in the development of charity in China.
