In Sudan 34 Chinese nationals have been transferred to the capital Khartoum after they escaped a rebel attack on the camp where they were working.

However, 29 of their colleagues are still in the hands of the rebels. The Chinese government has sent a working group to Sudan to aid in their rescue. It urged relevant parties to remain calm and guarantee the safety of the abducted workers.

Many say that they were lucky enough to find a place to hide themselves.

Some hid in the woods, while others under the huge containers to escape the rebels’ search.

They took turns turning on their cell phones to maintain battery life as long as possible.

As the workers are still in shock, most of them are not willing to recall the scene of the attack, and are worried about their colleagues.

Luo Xiaoguang, Chinese Ambassador to Sudan, said, "The Chinese embassy took contingency measures right away and requested the Sudanese government take effective measures to help Chinese workers hiding around the camp and look for the missing ones. 29 workers are still being held by the rebels, and there’s no report on their casualties yet. We’ll urge the Sudanese side to take active rescue efforts with the aim of ensuring their safety."

On Saturday, the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army-North rebel group attacked the site of a Chinese construction company operating on roads in South Kordofan State.

South Kordofan, located on the Sudan-South Sudan border, has witnessed armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the SPLA’s northern sector since June last year.

47 Chinese workers were at the scene of the attack. 29 of them were abducted, and 18 fled to neighbouring areas, one of which is still missing.
