日本反核抗议者在国会抗议

2012-07-30来源:CCTV9

Protesters have taken to the streets again in central Tokyo to oppose the recent resumption of two reactors at the Oi nuclear power plant in western Japan, after all of the nation’s reactors were closed following the Fukushima nuclear crisis.

Demonstrators say they’re angry that the government restarted two reactors earlier this month, despite safety concerns.

"They’ve restarted the Oi nuclear power plant. But problems following the Fukushima nuclear disaster haven’t been solved properly. And the Fukushima residents can’t even go back home. It’s no wonder that people are angry and protesting."

The demonstration was organized by the Metropolitan Coalition Against Nukes, which rallies in front of the prime minister’s office every Friday.

The protesters this time marched from Hibiya Park and encircled Japan’s Parliament building. Organizers say the protest has attracted more than 200 thousand people. But the Metropolitan Police Department reported a much lower figure of 13 thousand. Since Japan restarted two reactors at the Oi nuclear power plant in Fukui Prefecture in early July, domestic anti-nuclear protests have been on the rise.
