The European Union has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a new 1 billion euro Macro-Financial Assistance loan program to Ukraine.

The MFA loan program for Ukraine was approved by the EU Council of Ministers earlier this month.

The program aims to assist Ukraine economically and financially in the current stage of its development.

The aid part of the package to support Ukraine was announced by the European Commission on March 5 and endorsed by the European Council the following day.

European Commission Vice-President Siim Kallas said the assistance, combined with the previously decided 610 million euro MFA program, will provide much-needed help to the Ukrainian government for its financing needs.
