默克尔:没有对俄罗斯制裁的决定
The crisis in Ukraine will be a focus of a two-day EU summit starting Thursday.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the leaders will discuss how ensure last month's Minsk peace deal is fully implemented. She added they will discuss sanctions against Russia, but no further action at this time will be taken against the country.
"The purpose of the meeting is to discuss politically how to ensure that all of the agreements from Minsk are respected. As I said that sanctions and the implementation of the Minsk agreements must go hand in hand. There will be no legal decision at the March summit, only a political discussion." She said.
The statement come after the German leader's meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Monday.
Poroshenko told reporters that he and Merkel agreed there was no alternative to the Minsk deal between Ukraine and the pro-Russian rebels made on February the 12th in the Belarus capital.
He was quoted by Germany's Bild newspaper on Monday as saying the month-old accord was "not working," and accused the rebels of continuing to attack government positions on a daily basis.
