rather和quite与冠词连用时的位置（前置还是后置）

一、rather与quite同不定冠词连用

当不定冠词与 rather, quite 搭配使用时，不定冠词通常应置于其后。如：

He is rather a fool. 他是个大傻瓜。

It was quite a job to persuade him. 我费了九牛二虎之力才劝服了他。

但是，若该结构中的名词带有形容词修饰语，则不定冠词可放在这些词语之前或之后。如：

It was rather a busy day. = It was a rather busy day. 那天相当忙。

It is quite an interesting film [a quite interesting] film. 这是一部相当有趣的电影。

二、rather与quite同定冠词连用

当定冠词与 rather, quite 搭配使用时，定冠词通常应置于其后。这样用的 rather 和 quite 主要用于加强语气，其意为“完全”“正是”等。如：

He’s going quite the wrong way. 他路全走错了。

That was quite the nicest meal I’ve ever had. 那可真是我吃过的最好的一顿饭。

That’s rather the impression I wanted to give. 那正是我要给人们留下的印象。

但是，若 rather 或 quite 需要直接修饰名词前的形容词，则也可能置于定冠词之后，此时的 rather 或 quite 表示“相当”。如：

the rather slippery subject of race relations 相当棘手的种族关系问题
