C: Hello Judy.

R: Marco, what can you teU me about pizza?
R：马克，你能跟我说说比萨吗？ 

C: Well, pizza was originally a peaSant food, but nowadays pizza can be very expensive.
C:哦，比萨饼原先是一种乡下人吃的贪物，但现在却相当贵。

R: I see. It's a kind ofmcal with a bread plate, I guess.  So it would have been easy for Armers Co eat during their lunch breaks.

C: Exacdy, Judy. Modem Pizza is believed to have been invented by Raffaele Esposito. A baker in Napoli.

R: Some say that pizza was actuaUy invented by the Greeks. who ate flat round bread with an assortTllent of' toppings.

C: Some say chat, yes. But l'm an Italian ! I believe Italy invented the pizza.

R: Pizza is patriotic because it looks like the Italian flag, with its colours of green, fiom the basil, wlrite, from the niozzarella. and the red ofche tomatoes.  It was a favourite dish of the Queen.

C: Yes. that's how we get the name "Margherita", or mozzarella and tomato pizza. The queen's name was Queen Margherita.

R: Nowadays. peopje go crazy with toppings, even using chocolate and other sweet things, but what toppings would we find on a traditional, Neapolitan pizza?

C: Pizza Napoletana is made with fiesh rnozzareUa. honie-made sauce from fi-esh vine ripened tomatoes and fresh herbs, and the artistry of the pizzaioli, the pizza makers
C：那不勒斯比萨选用新鲜的奶酪，新鲜的自制西红柿酱和新鲜的香草由比萨师精心制成。

R: So, how did pizza migrate to America? We have many pizza chain restaurants which serve American style pizza, or " deep pan"  which are much thicker than the onginal Italian ones.
R：那比萨又是怎么传到美国的？我们有很多比萨连锁店卖美式比萨，或者说是“深盘比萨”，它们比原来的意大利比萨要厚很多。

C: Pizza came to America with Italian immigrants in the latter half of the 19th century.  By the turn of the century, Italians had begun to open their own bakeries and were selling grocenes as well as pizza.
C：比萨是1 9世纪后半期随着意大利的移民传到美国的。19世纪末20世纪初，意大利人开始经营他们自己的面包房，卖杂货还有比萨。

R: The first pizza restaurant, or "Pizzcria" opened in 1905, in New York. But it wasn't until after World War II when the soldiers came home, that pizza became so popular.

C: Yes, the soldiers based inItaly had eaten lots of pizza and wanted to continue eating it when they came home.

R: Today , pizza is one of the top 3 foods eaten by Americans and a staple of the American diet.
