S: Hello. I'm looking for Zhang Yimou films. I just saw Hero and think he is a great director.
S：你好，我想找些张艺谋拍的电影。我刚看完他的《英雄》，觉得他是个了不起的导演。

F: Yes, Zhang Yimou has become very popular in recent years. His recurrent theme is a celebration of the resilience, even the stubbornness. Of Chinese people in the face of hardships and adversities. He is also well known for his sensitivity to colour. The first movie he directed was Red Sorghum in 1987 which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. The movie is full of dynamic edits, striking close-ups, and gorgeously photographed images.
F：确实，张艺谋最近几年非常走红。他导演的影片主题经常是赞美中国人民面对困难和不幸所表现出来的达观甚至是顽强的精神。他也因为善于运用色彩而闻名。1987年他导演的第一部影片《红高粱》在柏林国际电影节赢得金熊奖。该片充满了富于变化的剪辑、惊人的特写镜头和炫丽的影像。

S: Just like Hero, he seems co always make beautiful movies.
S：就像《英雄》一样，他似乎总能拍出精彩的电影。

F: Also, in that year Zhang made two more movies, a movie called Codename Cougar, which I wouldn't recommend! And Ju Dou which won Best Film at the Chicago Film Festival and garnered an Academy Award nomination.
F:此外，就在那一年，张艺谋导演了另外两部影片，一部叫《代号美洲豹》，我不会给你推荐这个。另一部是《菊豆》。在芝加哥国际电影节上获最佳影片奖，以及奥斯卡金像奖提名。

S: OK, so I won't watch Codename Cougar, then.
S：好的，那我就不看《代号芙洲豹》了。

F: Then after a few years he made the amazing Raise the Red Lantern starring Gong Li.
F：接着几年之后，他拍出了令人不可思议的《大红灯笼高高挂》，由巩俐主演。

S: Yes, I've heard of this movie. I will buy that one if you have it.
S：是的，我听说过这部影片。你这里有的话，我买一张。

F: Here it is.  Also, in 1992 he made this one.  The Story of Qiu Ju about a pregnant lady whose husband has been beaten up by a village leader. This movie is very different from his others, there is no rigid style or sumptuous photography, it was filmed in a documentary style., which gives it a gritty look.
F：给你。除此之外．1992年他导演了《秋菊打官司》．该影片讲述了一个丈夫被村长打成重伤的怀孕女人的故事。该片与他的其它影片大不一样，没有固定不变的模式或奢华的影像，而是拍成了一种记录片的形式，使得影片给人一种勇敢坚毅的感觉。

S: That one's very different, I'll take it too.

F: As for more recent films, in 1999 Not One Less won the coveted Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
F：至于最近几年的电影．1999年的《一个都不能少》在威尼斯国际电影节上赢得金狮奖。

S: What about movies from the 2000s?
S：那2000年以后有什么影片？

F: In 2002 he made Happy -Times which was a seriocomic drama, then, of course Hero. And in 2004 House o-f Flying Daggers, which was set in the Tang dynasty and had a flamboyant use of colour,  very beautiful.
F：2002年他拍了《幸福时光》，这是个既严肃又诙谐的剧本，再有当然就是《英雄》。2004年，拍了《十面埋伏》．故事发生在唐朝，影片中大胆使用色彩，非常漂亮。

S: And most recently?
S：那最近有什么影片？

F: In 2006 he made Curse of the Golden Flower, an amazing period epic.  It stars Gong Li, Jay Chow and Chow Yun Fat.
F：今年他导演了《满城尽带黄金甲》。这是部令人惊叹的史诗片，由巩俐、周杰伦、周润发主演。

S: They all seem so different from each other, I guess I'll take them all!
S：这些影片似乎都各不相同，我想我就都要了吧。

张艺谋（1950年11月14日－），男，陕西西安人，中国电影导演。在电影学院学的是摄影专业。张艺谋获得美国波士顿大学荣誉博士学位，2008年北京奥运会开幕式、闭幕式总导演，中国“第五代导演”的代表人物之一，其拍摄的电影多次获得国际电影节大奖，是中国在国际影坛最具影响力的导演。早期他以执导充满中国传统文化的电影著称，2002年转型执导的武侠巨制《英雄》开启了中国电影的“大片时代”。2012年，张艺谋先后获得第14届孟买电影节终身成就奖、韩国大钟国际电影特别贡献奖、马拉喀什国际电影节杰出成就奖和开罗国际电影节终身成就奖。
