名人教英文：和身体相关的用语

早前，笔者介绍过有关衣饰的惯用语（idioms），今次会介绍和身体有关的用语。

惯用语keep at arm's length意谓“保持距离”。arm's-length是hyphenated adjective（即以连字符连接两个或以上的词语而组成的形容词），例子：mr x is taking up public office so he is making arm's-length arrangements to distance himself from his family business；又如arm's-length transaction（臂距交易），指交易双方应为平等而独立的个体，以确保交易价合乎市场的正常价格；不少地方的政府对于一些公营机构（例如艺术发展局）采取arm's-length principle，即是说不会介入机构的内部运作，给予一定自由度。

另一个和arm有关的惯用语为cost someone an arm and a leg。四肢对人非常重要，付上一臂一腿，意即“代价高昂”，例如：insisting on bidding to host the 2023 asian game will cost the government an arm and a leg.
