“恨上位”，该就是地道的香港粤语。这番恨，不但与憎恨脱钩，更是反指“爱得不得了”，want something badly，且还会“恨到发烧”—— dying for something、dying to do something。
要上位，一般指本来在下面排队，being in the queue，很想“打尖”插队去霸头位，to jump the queue。在过程中，就会有处心积虑的手段（calculated means）去 ko（kick out）竞争者。ko是潮语，比较传统斯文的讲法是to elbow out（用手肘撞走）、to push aside（推埋一边）、to sideline、marginalise（把人边缘化）等等。

上位：to stick out，有“突个头出来”的意象，即to be prominent，受人注目的。这种人通常有博影相的姿势，永远霸前排位：

to stick out as a frontrunner。例句：

that shoeshine boy (擦鞋仔) and protégé (马仔) of the big boss has been dying for the chairmanship. he has successfully used calculated means to push aside his opponents to now stick out as a frontrunner.
