伏笔的英文怎么讲呢，确有难度。一般的伏笔，或可叫做∶
(there was) a symbolic link... 有象征意味的联系。
(it contained) a subtle suggestion... 含蓄的告示。
(it was) an omen... 兆头。

要翻译“就××埋下伏笔、种下伏笔、已有伏笔”，可用动词foreshadow，解“预示”。those dark clouds foreshadow a storm. 黑云预示将有风暴。
the beginning of the story foreshadows the tragic ending. 故事的悲剧收场，在开场已有伏笔。

the scene carries a foreshadowing of what is to come later on in the story. 那一幕为随后的剧情发展，埋下伏笔。（留意这句的foreshadowing是名词。）

the tax hike was foreshadowed in the financial chief's speech. 加税一事，已在财长的演说中种下伏笔。
