The British and German leaders have said they both want to reach an agreement on the terms of Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union. But Chancellor Angela Merkel told Prime Minister Boris Johnson, he had 30 days to come up with fresh workable ideas after he repeated that current arrangements to guarantee an open border in Ireland must be scrapped. France says a no-deal Brexit is now the most likely outcome.

The Trump Administration intends to introduce rules allowing the indefinite detention of migrant families while the asylum claims are considered. The Department of Homeland Security said it would scrap a long-standing agreement that prevents migrant children being held in custody for more than 20 days.
