In a criminal case that shocked Argentina, two Roman Catholic priests have been jailed for over 40 years for sexually abusing deaf pupils at a church school. About 10 of the victims were in court for the sentencing. One of the priests was previously investigated for similar crimes in Italy. The Church has been criticized for failing to act more rapidly.
A committee from the World Anti-Doping Agency has recommended that Russia be given a four-year ban from sporting competition for falsifying laboratory data. That would see Russia banned from next year’s Olympics. A vote on the recommendation will be held early next month.
