Lifesaving, first aid..

Shawn Goldsmith is the most highly decorated (that) an eagle scout can be: 18 year old and earned every single merit badge there is, all 121 of them.

Everyday was something different and these are skills that I will remember for the rest of my life.

It took Shawn 5 years to get the first half of his merit badges, the rest, less than 5 months. He did it for his ailing grandmother.

She's like, "Shawn, why don’t we go further with this? You already have half there, and I really think you can do it." Everyone thought I couldn’t do it, foremost. She always believed me.

Sadly, his grandmother passed away when Shawn was just 18 badges shy of reaching the extraordinary. His grandfather then made his mission to see Shawn succeed, with help from scoutmaster Joseph Acquafredda of Troop 240 in the Bronx, who at first was skeptical.

I said Mr. A, you said if you can see it, you can be it. so then you couldn't say no.

Shawn reached his goal last month while a freshman in Binghamton University where he's a business major with a love for politics. In high school (he) interned for Senator Charles Schumer and a couple of days ago met one of his icons Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a businessman and fellow Eagle Scout.

It’s no surprise that Shawn one day wants to go into politics and take with him the public office to the skills and expertise he learnt in scouts, mainly honesty and integrity.

I see how great politicians, how they fall so easily. Be the one (who) lied and then get caught doing it. So, not only is it morally correct, which is one of the parts of scout law and oaths, to be morally straight, it’s worthy in the long run.

you have my vote, Shawn. Rob Hoell, Pix News at ten.
