法国总统萨科奇来访中国
French President Nicolas Sarkozy visits China to bury past tensions and lobby on global issues. Beijing had canceled a meeting in late 2008 after the French president had met with the Tibetan ** Lama. This time, Sarkozy sits with China's top legislator Wu Bangguo and President Hu Jintao to discuss Iran's nuclear program and monetary reform. Sarkozy is presenting ideas for a global financial system that relies less on the dollar. Hu Jintao would like to see financial reforms occur on a joint level.
"China believes that the important point for international financial system reforms should be focused on strengthening international financial supervision, promoting international financial system reform, encouraging regional financial cooperation and promoting the reform of the international monetary system. Our two countries have agreed to communicate and coordinate in order to promote a sustainable global economy."
Sarkozy is also pushing with other Western nations for a new round of sanctions against Iran. The Chinese government is said to want weaker punitive measures against Iran, its third largest supplier of crude oil.
