VOA常速英语:Top 5 Songs for Week Ending June 13

2015-06-12来源:VOA

We’re giving you the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart, for the week ending June 13, 2015.

This week’s countdown proves that when a hit is truly a HIT…it doesn’t go quietly.

Let’s start in fifth place, where Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars elbow aside The Weeknd regaining their chart mojo this week with “Uptown Funk.” This song is one week away from breaking a Hot 100 record… it has spent a total of 25 weeks in the Top Five. That equals LeAnn Rimes’ run with “How Do I Live,” back in 1997 and ’98…and could set them up for a record-breaking showing next week.

Holding in fourth place is Walk The Moon with “Shut Up And Dance.” The band members say they love spreading the word about their hometown of Cincinnat, Ohio…a large city that is not nationally known for its music scene. Guitarist Eli Maiman says record company execs had no idea of the Midwestern city’s vibrant food, music, and arts scenes…and the guys feel like it’s their job to educate people.

Fetty Wap spends another week in third place with “Trap Queen.” The New Jersey rapper celebrated a raucous birthday at home in New Jersey on June 7.…which happened to be his 25th birthday. He performed that night at MetLife Stadium for the Hot 97 Summer Jam…which turned dangerous, after non-ticket holders attempted to enter the venue. Police closed the main gate and clashed with the crowd.

Last week, Taylor Swift rocketed from 53rd to first place with “Bad Blood.” This week, she drops to number two. Taylor just reconnected with some old friends, when she brought Little Big Town onstage with her in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They played the band’s hit “Pontoon.” Taylor said Little Big Town was one of the first…and nicest…acts she met in the music business.

Re-claiming the Hot 100 title are Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth with “See You Again.” They also dominate Billboard’s inaugural Songs Of The Summer chart for 2015…even though summer doesn’t officially arrive here until June 21. What was last year’s winner? That would be “Fancy,” by Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX.

Join us next week and we’ll do it all over again!
