VOA常速英语:酒商使用低科技生物传感器检测水质
It is an old standard in the brewing industry the good beer starts with clean fresh water,so there’s all kinds of high-tech ways to monitor water quality throughout the brewing process. But this is a decidedly low-tech way to test for clean water.
“We have five crawfish controlling the water quality here, they’re connected to a computer and we are following their pulse activity and movement. When three or more crawfish move or change their pulse activity. We know that the water parameters have changed. We’re able to react quickly because we have the result within three minutes. ”
But why crayfish? The Czech scientists who come up with the idea say, crayfish are really sensitive to all kinds of changes in their water.
“Crayfish reacted very quickly to any nonspecific change, which is different to any other detectors, which react to a very low concentration of pollution but only to one specific agents.”
The scientists say they are expanding their crayfish biosensor program into other areas where clean water course.
