Here at the staging area for the fires in Northern California, fire fighters are waiting to hear the game plan for the day.The fight against the California fires has involved more than ten thousand firefighters along with helicopters, planes, bulldozers.

We have fire crews from all over the United States, mainly in the western part, some from the East Coast. We even have firefighters from other countries such as Australia.

Firefighters here say this is what they call a career fire, something they have trained for all of their lives. It is all too much at times. They need down time and a place to refuel.

You know, it can be a rollercoaster, obviously, but as most firefighters you just have that can-do attitude. You just want to go in, very task-oriented, get it done, let’s do our job so we can get people back into their homes.

Throughout California, there is an outpouring of appreciation for the firefighters’ hard work but the emotional toll is just beginning to sink in.

Everyone’s gone, the dust is kind of settled, I think that’s when you’ll get the more deeper emotions coming out.Right now it’s just a somber, you know, kind of feeling.

With the crisis mostly behind them, for the firefighters and the community. Now is the time to take stock of what has been saved and what has been lost.
