The Three Gossips, Parade of Elephants, North Window, the Organ, Tower of Babel, those are just a few of some 2 thousands of arch sculptures, in one of the most famous national parks in the United States, the Arches. The other world terrain of the park reminiscent of Mars was formed by the tectonic shifts that took place here millions of years ago.And the wind gives the sandstone its original form. You get the feeling here that time has stopped.

“But I do think that the rocks have stories to tell.” “Such as?”

“Such as where they were born? Whether or not it was blowing sand dune desert, or a coastal flat plain tidal flat.If you look at them closely and they can tell you a little bit about, what the world was like at the time that they were born. And also a little bit about what the world has been like in the last, say, million years.”

The Arches National Park is just over 300 square kilometers. The first stop after you take the ornate road is Park Avenue viewpoint. In 1888 Steven Spielberg used this location for his famous

“Right, it’s very beginning of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, young India is riding with his Boy Scout troop. It’s an easy place for everyone to get to, but it’s one of the first experiences many people have when they come to the park.”

The most famous arch is the 18-meter Delicate Arch.It is considered the main attraction of the park and is depicted on Utah’s license plates. In 2002 during the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, the Olympic torch was carried beneath it.Many of the park’s arches were formed from pink sandstone. Some of them have a two-color structure, where the second component is orange in color. Multicolored layers are clearly visible on those arches. The park is very popular among tourists, who come here not only to admire the surrounding beauty, but also hike explore and climb their peaks.

“Many people, they’re looking for something, maybe they’ve already seen a few images and so that they’re looking the sort of go capture those similar images.Other people have come may be the kind of recapture their previous visit.” The arches park was first opened in 1892, only 500 people visited in the first year, now almost a century later more than a million come each year. Everyone discovers something new.Park ranger Lee Ferguson who has been working here for many years never ceases sees it to be amazed.

“I have a personal connection to a landscape and the things that live on the landscape.I’ve worked here for number of years and I really feel like all the plants I see are my friends.”

Ferguson like many others believes that it’s important to preserve national parks including the arches, not only for the sake of beauty and maintenance of unique local ecosystems, but also because they are American national treasures.
