[Scene: The Hallway, Ross is eagerly waiting for the others to get ready, to go to the hospital.]

Ross: Monica, let's go. Come on now people, woman in labor.

(Chandler struts out from his apartment)

Chandler: (doing a little dance) Hey Ross, look what I've got going here.

Ross: Yeah, save it for the cab, okay.

(Rachel comes out from their apartment with a mirror and a lipstick in her hands)

Ross: What are you doing? We're going to a hospital.

Rachel: What, so I can't lokk nice? There might be doctors there.

Ross: Joey, get out of the fridge.

Joey: All right, all right. (he comes out from their apartment with a huge sandwich in his hand)

Ross: What is that? (refering to the sandwich)

Joey: For the ride.

Chandler: Yeah, like in a cab...

Ross: Save it.

Chandler: Okay, hating this.

Ross: Monica, come on now. Let's go, baby coming.

Yeah,save it for the cab,okay.(先不要讲了,车上再说。)

Save it!Keep quiet until the meeting is over.(别讲了! I don't care what you think you have to say.Save it!(我不管你想说什么,你给我闭觜!)

The boxer was saved by the bell.(铃声救了拳击手。)

We are saved by the bell.(铃声使我们得以脱身。) A stranger broke in upon my office.1 was saved bv the bell and stopped the talk at once.(一个陌生人闯入了我的办公室,这一来倒是救了我,使我立刻停止了这场谈话。)

如果出现了掉面子的事我们常会想办法save face(保全面子或挽回声誉):Though she's lost herjob,she saved face by saying she’d left it willingly.(虽然她丢了工作,但为了保全面子硬说自己是自愿离职的。)

You can save your breath, you’ll ncver persuade her(别白费唇舌了,你决说服不了她的。)

when the
rest of the gang were arrestcd,he saved his own skin by giving evidence against
Thanks for saving my neck!I would have fallen down the stairs if you hadn’t held my arm.(谢谢你救了我的命,你要不是抓住我的肩膀,我有可能要摔下楼梯了。)记住:A stitch in time saves nine.

Phoebe: Don't feel bad. You know they used to like you a lot. But then you got promoted, and, you know, now you're like "Mr. Boss Man". You know, Mr. Bing. Mr. Bing, "Boss Man Bing".

(Joey and Ross laughs)

Chandler: I can't belive it.

Phoebe: Yeah, yeah. They even do you.

Chandler: They do me?

Phoebe: You know like... uh okay... uh... 'Could that report be any later?'

They even do you.do在此超出了它常规的含义,表示“模仿”。

小孩子在imitate the wav adults spcak(模仿大人讲话的时候)总会make me laugh(把我逗乐)。

Hc tends to copy his elder brother in the things he says and the way he dresses.(他在言谈和穿着上都倾向于模仿他的哥哥。) 如果是戏弄性地模仿就用mimic:My son mimicked his uncle's voice and gestures perfectly.(我儿子把他叔叔的声音和姿态模仿得惟妙惟肖。)

The design of many buildings is modeled on classical Greek forms.(很多建筑物是模仿希腊的古典形式而设计的。)

missiles modeled after Germany's buzz bombs。

[Scene: Monica and Rachel's, Monica and Young Ethan are sitting in the couch.]

Monica: Did not.

Young Ethan: I am telling you, up until I was, like nine, I thought that gunpoint was an actual place where crimes happen.

Monica: How was that possible?

Young Ethan: Well, think about it. It's always on the news. 'A man is being held up, at gunpoint.' 'Tourists are being terrorised, at gunpoint.' And I just kept thinking: why does people continue to go there? (He checks his watch.) Oh, ah. I should go.

讲解

Ethan跟Monica讲起了他的童年趣事,到9岁时他还以为枪口就是犯罪现场,因为新闻老是这样报道:“A man is being held up at gunpoint;Tourists are being terrorized,at gunpoint.(一名男子在枪口的威胁下遭到了抢劫、游客们在枪口的威胁下吓坏了。)

The pilot was forced at gunpoint to fly to where the terrorists headquarters were.(飞机驾驶员在枪口的威逼下被迫飞往恐怖主义分子大本营所在地。)

Keep your hands where I can see them!(该用语也可被警察使用,也可用:Put them up!)。

One move I'll blow you away!(再动一下我就毙了你!) Don't move or I’ll blow your head off!(别动,不然我就打掉你的脑袋!)或:One false move and I’ll kill you.(再乱动一下我就宰了你)。

Gimme your money.(把钱给我交出来。)或:Hand your wallet over!(把你的钱包交出来!) If you don't gimme your money right now,I'm gonna waste you!(你要是不马上把钱交出来,我就废了你!) This is hold-up!Don't anyone move!(抢劫!

Let me see vour hands.
Hands behind your head back!或让其跪下:On your knees! Let's take him in and book him.(把他带到警局记录在案)。

The police officer will frisk the man for drugs.(警察就会为查出毒品而对那人进行搜身。)

You are our prime suspect. Surrender.We've got you covered!(投降吧,你已在我们的包围之下!)
