The One With Phoebe's Husband

本集简介：

Phoebe turns out to be married to Duncan, a gay friend who needed a green card. Phoebe did love him, and finds those feelings returning. Now (six years later) he's back and needs a divorce. Turns out he's not gay, and is getting married to someone else. The revelation of Phoebe's secret marriage prompts several other discoveries:

The underwear on the telephone pole outside is Monica's, from when she had sex with Fun Bobby on the terrace; Chandler has a third nipple; Joey was in a porn movie (which they then watch). Ross is nervous about the prospect of having sex for the first time with Julie. He approaches Rachel for advice; her own interest in Ross keeps her from being completely honest, and she tries her best to see that it doesn't happen.

想不到菲比竟有个丈夫叫邓肯，此人是个同性恋，是菲比的加拿大朋友，她帮他拿美国绿卡所以结婚。

故事梗概

正如Joey所讲，“this is unbelievable．”(简直是难以置信嘛。)Phoebe竟然有个叫Duncan的丈夫，
而且，此君一出现就提出和Phoebe离婚。
原来Duncan之前虽然在法律上是Phoebe的丈夫，但实质上Duncan之前是加拿大人，
同Phoebe结婚只是为了得到一张美国绿卡(green card)；
而且Duncan之前是个同性恋，(gay)，但是他现在发现自己爱上了一个叫Debra的女孩，
因而他说“Oh God．I don’t know how to tell you this.I'm straight．”
他想离婚了……

[Scene: Madison Square Garden, Duncan's dressing room. Phoebe is fixing her hair and Duncan enters.]

Phoebe: So um, so what's up, you came to see me yesterday.

Duncan: Oh, yeah, um, alright, I kinda need a divorce.

Phoebe: Ohh. . .K. How come?

Duncan: Umm, actually, I'm getting married again.

Phoebe: What?

Duncan: Oh God, I don't know how to tell you this. I'm straight.

Phoebe的丈夫突然出现并提出离婚，出乎意料的Phoebe说：Howcome?(为什么呢?或者：怎么想到这个了呢?)

How come?在Friends中出现的频率很高。有一幕是这样的，六人一起出去吃饭，回来分摊费用时发生了矛盾，Chandler说：How come you guys haven’l talked about this before?(你们怎么不提前商量好呢?)弄得现在不愉快。

还有一幕，Joey搬进新居，大家来看他时惟独Chandler没到，Joey说：Hcv，how come，uhh，Chandler didn't come?(Chandler怎么会没来呢?)再如，Phoebe对父亲是谁产生了怀疑，找到grandmother要看父亲的照片。Grandmother说：Sure，sure，oh，how come?(好的，好的，可你怎么突然想起看他的照片了呢?)这样的例子很多，不胜枚举。

How come类似于why，但二者用法不尽相同，以how come开头的问句使用的是陈述句语序。例如，美国著名作家Erma Bombeck(欧玛·庞贝克)有这样一句名言：
“How come anything you buy will go on sale next week?”(怎么你买的东西总会在第二周就打折出售了呢?)还有，在著名的法律题材电影“To Kill a Mockingbird”(《杀死一只知更鸟》)中，那个懒散的、带有种族歧视的白人检察官(prosecutor)问及黑人Tom(被冤枉强奸了一名白人妇女)为什么会帮助那个白人妇女时，含沙影射地说(insinuate)：How come you’re so all-fired anxious to do that woman’s chores?(你为什么会那样心急火燎地给那位女士做那些杂事呢?)倘若你用why来问这句话，则只能说：Why are you so all—fired anxious to do that woman’s chores?

有一次，Rachel很久没有找到男朋友了，她想找个人“玩一玩儿”(fling），Chandler说：“There's some nice guys at my office，do you want me to set you up?”，意思是“我们单位的几个小伙子都不错，要我给你安排吗?”Rachel说：“Yeah!Wait a minute，it's been a long time that I've been single．How come you never offered this before?”

下次如果有人说很漂亮的英语，你就可以说：How come you speak such good English?(你怎么讲得这么好的英语呢?)

最后我们说说“绿卡”。大家都知道，去美国留学要申清签证，F-1或J-1。这种签证叫“非移民签证”(non-immigrant visa)；“移民签证”叫immigrant visa；不能将Green Card与移民签证搞混，持有移民签证的人可以永久居留。

绿卡是“永久居留证”的俗称，英文是“Permanent Resident Alien Registration Card”。领事馆发签证，移民局发绿卡。

故事梗概

一石激起千层浪，Phoebe与加拿大人Duncan的秘密婚姻“曝光”后，Monica的秘密也暴露了出来。
电话杆上的内衣引发了新的风波……

Monica: What have I not told you?

Phoebe: Oh, I don't know. Umm, how about the fact that the underwear out there on the telephone pole is yours from when you were having sex with Fun Bobby out on the terrace.

Rachel: What!

(Rachel, Joey, Ross, and Phoebe run over to the window to look.)

Monica: Wait a minute, who told you? (turns to Chandler who's looking sheepish) You are dead meat.

Chandler: I didn't know it was a big secret.

本集中，Monica的秘密败露，她认为是chandler泄的密，于是愤怒地脱口骂道：YOU're dead meat!(你死定了!)

与You're dead meat!相似的一句话是You're history．

Friends中，不客气的“骂人话”也是俯拾皆是。第2季第2集中有一句：Look，would you guys grow up?(喂，你们长大点儿好不好，别这么幼稚行不行啊!?)如果有人二十岁了还不会洗衣服，你就可以说Hey，grow up!

看到grow up想起了wise up，不过wise up可没那么客气，那是让对方放聪明点儿。

第2季21集中，Ross和Chandler遇到Big Bully(大恶霸)一伙抢了他们的帽子。Ross：Let's，let's take this outside?Who talks like that?(要出去解决吗?你是怎么说话呢?)这就是向对方宣战了。有时这样的话也能勉强把人唬住，就看你演得像不像了。类似的表达有：You want to step outside?You want to take this outside?(你想要外面解决吗?)

第1季12集中，Monica：You kiss uncle Freddie with that mouth?意为你说话太难听了，简直就是一张臭嘴，还怎么吻别人啊。类似的说法有：Do you eat with that mouth?言下之意就是你的嘴那么脏，你还用这张嘴吃饭?

第4季6集中，Monica承办完了一位老太太为其故去丈夫的funeral酒席，却没有勇气要钱，忍无可忍的Phoebe说：I don't know who she thinks she is!Enough is enough!(她以为她是谁呀，受够了!)

英语中，还有seven dirty words之说，意思是主流的媒体(media)不可以使用的7个特别“脏”的字。这七个字是shit，piss，fuck，cunt，cocksucker，tits，以及motherfucker。
