The One With the List

本集简介：

Chandler gets a new computer. Ross is depressed about having to chose between Julie and Rachel. Chandler suggests they make a list of pros and cons, which somehow never makes it past the cons. Ross choses Rachel, but then she finds the list and decides she doesn't want to be with Ross anymore. Monica's finds a new job creating Thanksgiving recipes for Mockolate, a synthetic chocolate substitute.

钱德有了一台新电脑。

至于朱丽，罗斯说她唯一的缺点是，“她不是瑞秋”。
罗斯最终选择了瑞秋，但当瑞秋发现他竟用这种方法进行取舍，她又不乐意同罗斯交往了。
莫妮卡找到一份新工作，为巧克力的代替品“魔克力”设计菜谱。

2-08　拔掉电话，专心听Rachel“谈恋爱”

故事梗概

Ross很幸运，有两个女孩子喜欢上了他；Ross也很不幸，虽然有两个女孩子喜欢上了他，
可他却不知道该怎么办。他喜欢Rachel,也喜欢那个中国女孩Julie。
但他还是选择了Rachel,尽管Rachel doesn’t have a lot in common　with him．尽管Rachel不是古生物学家(paleontologist)，尽管她有些娇惯(a little spoiled)，可是他还是似乎更爱Rachel一些；
没有理由，爱一个人是不需要理由的。

[Scene: Monica and Rachel's apartment. Phoebe, Monica, and Rachel are there, discussing the night before.]

RACH: Ross kissed me.

MNCA: Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!

RACH: It was unbelievable!

MNCA: Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!

PHOE: Ok, all right. We want to hear everything. Monica, get the wine and unplug the phone. Rachel, does this end well or do we need to get tissues?

RACH: Oh, it ended very well.

PHOE: Oh.

MNCA: [getting the wine] Do not start without me. Do not start without me.

Ross终于约Rachel了，这让三个女人都感到异常得兴奋。Phoebe要大家赶快拔掉电话，好让大家有机会安安静静听听Rachel所讲的浪漫故事。在英语中，拔掉电话可以用unplug the telephone；unplug表示拔去(插头，塞子等)，这能让人联想到现在老师上课都要关掉手机，即turn off the ceelmobilc phone。例如：

Do not unplug your telephone from the wall jack bccause the line may be dcactivated．If you need to unplug your telephone，it will probably be easiest to unplug

the telephone cord from the telephone unit．(请勿从墙上的插座处拔电话，因为这样可能导致电话线失灵。如果您需要拔掉电话，从电话机上拔掉更容易。)再如：

Turn off the machine and unplug it when you leave．(出门的时候，把机器关掉，电源也关掉。)

一次，看到一篇有关母亲节的文字，觉得很好，摘抄了一句：Iust for this afternoon I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off，and sit with you in thc garden blowing bubbles．(这个下午，什么事都可以不干。我要拔掉电话，关上电脑，和你坐在园子里吹泡泡玩。)

pull the plug也可表示“拔掉插头、切断电源”(to unplug or cut power)等但是，该词组还可以引申为“停止从事某事情、除去束缚”等。例如：

The computer company pullcd the plug on it's money-losing line of PC．(这家电脑公司对赔钱的个人电脑停止了生产。)再如：

Thc federal government pullcd the plug on deficit spending．(联邦政府解决了赤字问题。)还有一次，看到一篇文字，叫做“远离暴力”(unplug the vielcnce)。

有句话很好，它说：Don't USC the television as a babv-sitter．It's easy sometimes to just tell the children to“go watch TV”while you are busy doing something else or just can't think of something else for them to do to occupy their time．This practice may be convenient，but it can become a pattern of indiscriminate TV watching and game playing．
