本集简介：

Joey has a dream that Monica is his girlfriend; Monica tells him it just means he wants a relationship with the closeness that he sees between herself and Chandler. She suggests he try being friends with a woman before being intimate. After hitting on Rachel (unsuccessfully), Joey tries to make friends with new women; but they find his "friends first" approach so enticing that they want the intimacy immediately. Phoebe finds a police badge under a cushion at the coffee house. She plans to return it but has too much fun pretending to be a cop... until she pulls it on the actual owner of the badge. She drops the badge and runs away; he tracks her down and asks her on a date. Ross buys a new sofa (couch), but can't get it up the stairs to his apartment.

故事梗概

怪异的Phoebe总是那么得不可思议，当大家拭不出零钱给小(tips)时，她居然能在Central Perk咖啡馆的沙发垫下发现几枚硬币——外加一枚警察徽章。激动之余，又让Phoebe左右为难，物归原主吧?可假扮警察实在是太好玩了……遭遇徽章的主人后， Phoebe卸甲而逃。但警察逐是找上门来将她 “追查”了出来．并开始了一段浪漫惰缘．

Rachel: She is so cute! You could fit her right in your little pocket!
Joey: I don't know. I mean I like her a lot, and she's really nice, but?
Monica: But what?
Joey: (shyly) She keeps punching me.

cross one’s fingers是外国人常用的手势语(non-verbal communications)之一，就是将中指和食指搭在一起作缠绕状。它有两层意思，一层表示“愿上帝保佑你，祝你成功，祝你好运”(hope for good luck)；另一层意思是，表示做动作的人在说谎或者做不真诚的允诺(insincere promise)。西方人认为说谎是不好的，上帝是不会原谅的，即便是一个white lie(善意的谎言)。因此，说谎者，尤其是小孩子，就在说谎的同时悄悄cross his／her fingers以向上帝坦白，祈求原谅。

很多电影中都有“边编瞎话边悄悄背过手去做这个动作”的这一可爱情节。如果实在腾不出手来，还有人用双腿替代呢。

说到手势语，不能不提thumb one’s nose，wriggle fingers back and forth。它是外国小孩子们幸灾乐祸表示淘气(taunting)的一个手势，用大拇指抵住鼻尖，其余四个手指来回煽动，通常还伴以有节奏的哼唱或吐舌头等，让人实在又好气又好笑。

知道“我爱你”的手势语怎么打吗?试试看，thumb，index finger and pinkie up，others folded down，即“大拇指、食指、小拇指向上，其他抱住手掌”，你学会了吗?此外，如果你想让别人过你跟前来，你可以wave your hand toward yourself；如果你想表示某一件东西很smelly，你可以pinch your nose with thumb and-forefinger while wrinkling your nose；如果你想祝某人成功，你可以hold up your middle and forefinger in a V；如果你想表示“好”的意思，你可以close your hand or hands，make your thumb extend upward；相反，如果你想表示“差”的意思，你可以做这个姿势：one or both hand closed，thumbs extended downward；表示反对、不赞成（disapproval)可以flown；而both hands forms fists；forefingers extended，stroke one forefinger across the other，则表示“shame on you"。你猜对了吗?那么你可以clap your hands together，这表示你对自己的智商很满意。

还有一件有趣的事，英语中拇指叫thumb，其它四个都叫finger(fore finger，middle finger，ring finger，little finger／pinkie)，所以the third finger是指无名指而非中指。可是，在有的字典中对thumb的定义又是one of the fingers；严格讲，它应是the thick short innermost digit(指头)of a hand next to forennger。
