本集简介：

Rachel has an eye infection but doesn't want anyone touching her eye. Monica finally gets her to a doctor but then Rachel won't use the eyedrops. Everyone has to hold her down and force her to use them. Phoebe is mad at Ross but can't remember why. Joey gets the lead role in a independent film called Shutter Speed, being filmed in Las Vegas. He and Chandler start a road trip but Chandler lets slip that he doesn't think this is Joey's big break, and gets kicked out of the car. Joey makes it to Vegas but the movie is shutting down from lack of funds, leaving Joey trying to make ends meet as a gladiator at Caesar's Palace.

山不转水转，Joey终于时来运转，

本来是个照相机术语． Joey感到万分高兴，因为电影马上要在Las Vegas

可是， Chandler却不认为这是什么好机会．

Joey: (entering, depressed) Hey. I just got off the phone with Estelle and guess what. (Pause, then very excitedly) I GOT THE LEAD IN A MOVIE!!!!!!
Chandler: You got the lead in a movie? That's amazing! What's the movie about?!
Joey: It's called Shutter Speed, it's really cool! Yeah, umm, I meet this girl in the subway and we fall in love in like a day, right? And then, she disappears?But I find out where she lives and when I get there this like old lady answers the door and I say, "Where's Betsy?" Right? And she says, "Betsy's been dead for 10 years."

看来是个恐怖片(horror film)，怪不得Phoebe说chilling呢。经常看外国电影的朋友一定非常关注每年的奥斯卡获奖影片，了解一些常用的说法会给你以后的谈资增色不少。

美国电影协会(American Film Institute／AFI)曾经评出百年百部伟大影片(100 years，100 greatest monies)，前十名的片子，想必大家都很熟悉，我们在这里再列举一下，它们依次是：1941年的Citizen Kane(《公民凯恩》)；1943年的Casanblanca(《北非谍影》，一译《卡萨布兰卡》)；1972年的The Godfather(《教父》)；1939年的Gone with the Wind(《乱世佳人》)；1962年的Lawrence of．Arabia(《阿拉伯的劳伦斯》，一译《沙漠枭雄》)；1939年的The Wizard of Oz(《绿野仙踪》)；1967年的The Graduate(《毕业生》)；1954年的On the Waterfront(《岸上风云》，一译《码头风云》)；1993年的Schindler’s List(《辛德勒的名单》)；以及1952年的Singing in the Rain(《雨中曲》)。即便是排在后面的片子，也有许多十分精彩，值得一看。

世界上比较有名的电影节有法国的Cannes Film Festival(戛纳电影节)；德国的Berlin Film Festival(柏林电影节)等。我国比较有影响的电影节有台北“金马电影节”(Golden Horse Film Festival)；香港的“香港国际电影节”(Hong Kong International Film Festival)；以及“上海国际电影节”(Shanghai International Film Festival)等。

最著名的电影奖当属美国奥斯卡金像奖，称为学院奖(Academy Awards)，或奥斯卡(Oscars)，每年由美国电影艺术与科学学院(Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences)颁发，旨在鼓励优秀电影的创作与发展，是美国影视界最重要的奖项，也是美国国内最受世界瞩目的奖项。其次，还有金球奖(Golden Globe Awards)等。

第一届奥斯卡颁奖典礼于1929年5月16日在好莱坞的罗斯福酒店举行，最近的一次是2005年2月的第77届典礼。奥斯卡的奖座是一个镀金的合金塑像：一位体躯魁伟的男子，双手紧握战士的长剑，屹立在一盘胶片上。

奥斯卡奖所设的奖项包括最佳影片奖(Best Picture)，最佳导演奖(Best Directing)，最佳男主角奖(Best Actor in a Leading Role)，最佳女主角奖(Best Actress in a Leading Role)，最佳男配角奖(Best Actor in a Supporting Role)，最佳女配角奖(Best Actress in a Supporting Role)，最佳原创剧本奖(Original Screenplay)，最佳改编剧本奖(Adapted Screenplay)，最佳艺术指导／美工／布景装置奖(Best Art Direction／Interior or Set Decoration)，最佳摄影奖(Best Cinematography)，最佳视觉效果奖(Visual Effects)，最佳剪辑奖(Film Editing)，最佳原创音乐奖(Original Music Score／Original Score)，最佳歌曲奖(Best Song)，最佳音响／混音奖(Sound／sound Mixing)，可最佳声音剪辑／音效奖(Sound Editing／sound Effects Editing／Sound Effects)，最佳服装设计奖(Costume Design)，最佳化妆奖(Makeup)；科技成果奖(Scientinc or Technical Awards)，最佳动画奖(Best Animated Feature)(2001年设立)，最佳动画短片奖(Animated Short Film)，最佳真人短片奖(Live Action Short Film)，最佳纪录长片奖(Documentary Feature)，最佳纪录短片奖(Documentary Short subject)以及最佳外语片奖(Best Foreign Language Film)等。

获奥斯卡奖11项奖项的影片有：《宾虚》(Ben-Hur，1959)、《泰坦尼克号》(Titanic，1997)、《指环王：王者归来》(The Lord of the Rings：The Return of King，2003)。获10项奖的有《西区故事》(West Side Story，1961)。获9项奖的有：《琪琪》(Gigi，1958)、《末代皇帝》(The Last Emperor，1987)、《英国病人》(The English Patient，1996)等。《泰坦尼克号》曾经获14项提名，《乱世佳人》曾获13项提名的。Katharine Hepburn(凯瑟琳·赫本)于1934年、1967年、1968年和1981年先后四度获得最佳女主角奖。

Friends中，关于电影的话题有很多。第1季第6集中，Joey被一个经纪人看中在一部影片中得到一个角色，他欣喜若狂，因为他终于可以踏足影坛了，而且还是Al Pacino主演的电影!为Joey高兴之余，大家出于好奇，问起了他所饰演的角色问题，Joey回避了几次不成，最终只好实话实说：他的角色是给Al Pacino的臀部当替身。尽管大家有些不可思议，Joey还是很珍视这个机会。拍摄那天，Joey竭力表现，但由于他过分投入最终被导演炒了。关于这段，我们可以欣赏下面这个片断：

Joey...I’m his butt double．‘Kay？ I play Al Pacino’s butt．Alright?He

Chandler：Oh no，it’s terrific，it’s...it’s...y’know，you deserve this，after all your years of struggling，you've finally been able to crack your way into show business．

在大家的再三追问下Joey只得坦白：I play Al Pacino’s butt．我演Al Pacino的臀部。play在此的意思是“扮演……角色”，如果想表达某某演员担任主角则用star。

比如：The best adventure movie actor is definitely Harrison Ford．He always stars in adventure movies．(最棒的冒险片演员无疑是Harrison Ford，他总在冒险片里担任主角。)而文中的double是“替身”的意思，a stunt double是指“特技替身演员”；a body double是指“身材类似的替身”。

每部影片开拍前，导演常常会hold an audition(举行一次试演或试镜)以挑选出leading role(主角)和supporting role(配角)，这样才有可能制作出box-office hit(票房卖座片)。电影放映前总会有些trailer(宣传片)，很多电影比如Superman(《超人》)、Legally Blonde(《律政俏佳人》)、Lion King(《狮子王》)等等在成功之后还会推出sequel(续集)。

电影的类型很多，人们通常根据自己的口味选择。有些人喜欢动作片action movie，比如Arnold Schwatzenegger(阿诺·施瓦辛格)主演的Terminator(《魔鬼终结者》)，当然也有人认为Action movies are always too violent and bloody．(动作片通常都太暴力而且充满血腥。)他们可能会选择zomedy(movie)(喜剧片)，如Home Alone(《小鬼当家》)，因为它很爆笑。年轻人会喜欢romance(movie)(爱情片)，例如Ghost(《人鬼情未了》)或science-fiction(movie)(科幻片)，像Back fD the Future(《回到未来》)，it was said the special effects in it were stunning．(据说《回到未来》的特技效果非常棒。)

当然最刺激的电影还数horror(movie)(恐怖片)。比如Alien，很多人看完之后都说：It nearly frightened me to death!(差点没把我吓死!)其他类型的电影还有tragedy(movie)(悲剧片)、suspense(movie)(悬念片)、adventure(movie)(冒险片)等等。

但是在这里我想提醒读者的是在美国电影类型并不只是用一个单词来分类，例如，urassic Park(《侏罗纪公园》)就是一部science-fiction-adventure(科幻冒险片)。此外还有：suspense-horror(悬念恐怖片)，adventurehorror(冒险恐怖片)，science-fiction-horror(科幻恐怖片)，romance tragedy(爱情悲剧)，suspense-tragedy(悬念悲剧)，tragedy-thriller(惊险悲剧)，suspense-thriller(悬念惊险片)，action-suspense(悬念动作片)，romance-comedy(爱情喜剧)，action-adventure(冒险动作片)，science-fiction-action(科幻动作片)，science-fiction-adventure(科幻冒险片)，adventure-comedy(冒险喜剧)，science-fiction-comedy(科幻喜剧)。

作为英语学习者，适当地看一些原版电影还是很有益处的。也许你会跟我抱怨：There is no use watching a foreign movie if it isn't subtitled in both English"and Chinese．They speak too fast．(没有中、英文字母的外国电影看了等于白看，他们说得太快了。)事实上，看带中文字母的英语电影收获会甚小，因为你总有一种依赖感而不会独立地去锻炼自己的能力。把No pain，no gain．(不劳则无获。)牢记在心，Challenge yourself!(挑战自我!)
