本集简介：

The One With The Proposal, part 1

Everyone except Monica knows that Chandler is about to propose. He plans to do it at Monica's favorite restaurant, but they bump into Richard there, which derails his plans. Returning home, the rest of the gang almost blows the secret, and Chandler decides to act like marriage is the furthest thing from his mind, so Monica won't get suspicious. Rachel takes Phoebe and Joey to a charity event which her boss is hosting. Phoebe drinks a lot; Joey thinks the silent auction is just a contest to guess the right price, and he ends up buying a sailboat for $20,000. Rachel convinces the second-place bidder to buy it, but she also convinces Joey to keep it, in the process. A dorm-room water-balloon fight shows Ross that his relationship with Elizabeth doesn't have a future, so he breaks up with her.

故事梗概

Chandler要向Monica求婚的消息尽人皆知， 惟独Monica还被蒙在鼓里． Chandler计划带Monica到她最喜爱的餐厅求婚， 却碰见Monica以前的情人Richard. 书婚计划被迫廷期。 回家后， 其他人正准备恭喜， 幸被Chandler的暗示阻止， 计划才没有泄漏。Chandler只好假装压根没想过结婚的事， 以免Monica起疑。

Monica: I knew you were likely to take a wife!
(They hug again.)
Joey: (yelling through the door) Can we come it yet?! We're dying out here!
Monica: Come in! Come in! (Joey, Rachel, and Phoebe burst through the door.) We're engaged!!!
(Everyone screams and has a group hug.)
Rachel: Ohhh, this is the least jealous I've ever been!

相爱的Monica和Chandler终于向婚姻的殿堂迈进了一步。做出结婚这个决定对二人来说都不容易。那么下面让我们回顾一下走向婚姻的整个路程吧。

首先两个人先要约会(date)。那我们聊一下date这个词吧。date可作动词用，如：I often dated roommate's sister．(我常常“约会”我同屋室友的妹妹。)换句更通俗的话来说就是“我常常带我同屋室友的妹妹出去玩。”

当date做名词时，不光指有情人之间的约会，也可指商务见面、一般性的见面等。当有个你不愿见的人约你时，你就可以说：“Sorry，I've already had a date with my friends．”(抱歉，我已经和朋友有约了)。需要注意的是，date作为名词时，除了指“事”外，也可以指“人”，那就是用来代表男女约会的“对象”了。比方有人问你：“Have you got a date fOr tonight?”我们可以译作“你今晚有约会吗?”还可以理解为“你今晚(出去)找到伴儿了吗?”

其次，date之后感情发展很顺利的话，两人就会情不自禁地kiss了。下面说说kiss这个词。kiss这个词也许三岁小孩都知道怎么说，怎么做了，不用多说。不过不知大家知不知道有句关于kiss的短语kiss and tell(亲了嘴还要透露)。它原指某一类男性，喜欢夸大宣扬自己玩女人的本领，亲了别人之后然后大肆宣扬。近年来美国国会议员时有犯桃色案件的，事发后金发女郎著书问世或在报章杂志上亮相，她们这种行为就可以称为kiss and tell。
至于订婚、结婚前面多有提到，这里就不再重复了。
