本集简介：

The One With Ross And Monica's Cousin

Joey is up for a leading role in a movie, but the director is looking for an uncircumcized male to do a nude scene. Joey claims he's not circumcized, and then Monica helps him by making a variety of attachments to choose from. (He chooses Silly Putty.) But the piece falls off during Joey's final audition. Rachel and Phoebe realize they're expected to throw Monica a bridal shower, so they quickly put one together. Ross and Monica's cousin Cassie comes to visit for a few days. She's so drop-dead gorgeous that Chandler can't stop staring; Ross makes a move on her; and Phoebe considers her options as well.

新娘送礼会

故事梗概

Monica的婚礼迫近，Rachel和phoebe妇却忘了给她举办新娘送礼会。只剩下几天时间了，逐是在Monica的提醒下两人才于手忙脚乱地筹划起来。不管怎样，聚会总算搞起来了。为了给到场的Monica一份惊喜，Rachel和Phoebe让客人们藏了起来，假装告诉她客人们等不及都走了。可是Monica不但没生气．看到补物的她反倒高兴地说：太好了，不用应酬那些我不喜欢的人我就可以得到这么多礼物。

Rachel: Oh Monica, we are so sorry.

Monica: For what?

Rachel: Well first, for forgetting to throw you a bridalshower.

Phoebe: And then for forgetting to invite you to it.

Monica: You al-you already had it?

Phoebe: Yeah. Well, we called everyone in your phone bookand a bunch of people came, but it took us so long to get you here thatthey-they had to leave.

不知道大家有没有注意到，美国人说举行一个party喜欢用throw这个动词，算是一种很口语但却十分受欢迎的用法。例如我明天要在我家举行派对，就是：I’m gonna throw a party inmy house tomorrow．

结婚是喜事也是人生中的大事，或许正因如此结婚这个话题才在Friends当中一再被提及。但是由于东西方文化的不同，加上我们对美国结婚习俗知之甚少，以致经常会产生误解。例如bridal shower(或叫wedding shower)就有不少中国人就会误会是“受洗”的意思，因为根据中国有些地方的习俗新娘在婚礼前夜都要好好清洗一下。其实bridal shower的真正意思与此理解相差十万八千里。

所谓bridal shower是指在婚礼前一到两个月的时间给准新娘办的一个“新娘送礼会”，新郎新娘事先挑选好新生活需要的用品，广而告之，让亲友们选购。等到聚会的时候，新娘的女性朋友都会来参加，并为她带来各种礼物，大家都把自己的礼物精心包装好，带来让准新娘一一拆开。

此外，读者不可以将bridal shower与前述(本书4—22 baby shower及各种各样的派对)的Bachelorette party(女子告别单身晚会)混淆。
