The London Olympics is around 150 days away, and already, people are wondering what legacy it will leave behind. Currently, a quarter of UK adults are dangerously overweight or obese. Now a special exhibition has been set up to show young people how exercise changes their bodies.

A few more leaps and these kids will not only know how high they can jump, but also their muscle strength and lung capacity.

After exercising, they touch a metal plate, connected to a neon graph showing their heart rate.

The youngsters are being inspired to run, jump and pedal in an interactive exhibition, aimed at showing how exercise affects both them, and Olympic athletes.

Specially designed machines and robots reveal how their hearts are pumping and their lungs are breathing, in real time.

A visitor said, "Tells me that when I'm doing running and when I'm doing swimming it makes a difference between my heart beat, I'd just like to find out a little bit more and I like the bit over there where you have to press the buttons because it's all about quickness."

The idea is to use London's Summer Olympics to inspire children of all ages to learn and appreciate what makes their bodies tick.

The exhibition has the support of a host of athletes taking part in the 2012 games, but its greatest ambassador is Sir Steve Redgrave, the proud owner of five Olympic Rowing Gold medals.

Sir Steve Redgrave, Olympic gold medalist, said, "They'll learn so much more about the body, how it works and from that point of view about calories in, calories out so yes that will make an impact from that point of view, but it's not an obesity legacy programme from that point of view. It's using the excitement of 2012 and this sporting year and adapting that to science, to young people engaging them in a very fun way of doing it."

The emphasis on exercise has become especially important among the young because of an increase in obesity related health problems among adults and children.

Britain's Health and Safety Executive says a quarter of UK adults are harmfully overweight, or obese.

The exhibition is touring the UK until the end of the summer.
