法网公开赛:瑞士二号种子被同胞淘汰

In French Open, 17 time grand slam champion Roger Federer was taking on his friend and Swiss compatriot Stan Wawrinka. The older Federer has an 18-2 record over Stan and in four meetings at a grand slam, he has never lost to his Davis Cup team-mate.

We join the action in the first and Wawrinka, in the near court, has set point. On a windy afternoon at Roland Garros, Federer struggled during while Stan's powerful ground strokes cut through the swirls. A big forehand on the line and Federer can't get it back as Wawrinka takes it 6-4.

Stan the Man would claim the second set 6-3 and is now serving up 5-3 in a third set tiebreaker. The forehand winner sets up match point.

But on his first attempt, Federer denies him as he smacks a nice forehand himself.

It's now 6-4 with Federer serving again. Warinka nails a shot to the corner which forces a weak return, and then the lob to finish it as he just barley avoids hitting the net. A momentous win for Wawrinka and he's off to the semi-finals.

Frenchman wins 6-1, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3, into semis

Another quarter-final does not feature these guys, but rather Kei Nishikori in the near court against local favourite Jo Wilfried Tsonga. The Frenchamn won the first two sets, but can't get this backhand to go. Nishikori would win the third and fourth sets to force a decider.

We go to match point in the fifth, and Tsonga rains down forehand bombs until Nishikori sends it long. It takes a moment for it to sink in as Jo Willy drops to his knees and roars along with the crowd. Next up is Wawrinka in the semi-finals.

Serb reaches first semis since winning title in 2008

On the women's side, Ana Ivanovic beat Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-2 to reach the last four. Ivanovic will play her first semifinal at a major tournament since she won in Paris in 2008. Her famous boyfriend, German soccer star Bastian Schweinsteiger is celebrating in the stands.

Lucie Safarova had a much tougher quarter-final match. The 13th seed fights off an early break from Garbine Muguruza in the second set and closes out the match 7-6, 6-3 to make her first French Open semifinals.
