21. pick up 拿起，捡起；取(物)，用车接载(人)；获得，学会；好转，改进，增加(速度)；(使)重新开始，继续

I applied for the job but they turned down my application because I didn’t know German. 我申请这个职务，但是他们拒绝了我的申请，因为我不懂德语。　　

该短语表示“关小”“调低”时反义词是 turn up（调大）。如：
