名人教英文:恶人先告状…桌子掉转了
世事,有时候明明是你忠他奸,明明你是受害人,you are the victim,对方却可以恶人先告状,大剌剌地猥琐,反过来说他是好人,你才是坏人,用英文口语讲:he's the goodie, and you are the baddie instead。
大至政府,小至个人,都会上演这款捩横折曲、恶人先告状。恶人,不必直译villain,讲the guilty party、the baddy(众数baddies)就好。而先告状的“先”,有先下手为强之意,英文是to pre-empt、take a pre-emptive measure。告状,就很有点旧日的封建历史味道,现代西方的说法,是to sue、to file a suit、to file a complaint。
于是,一句“看他的态度,简直就系恶人先告状!”可译做:
see the way he behaves. it's just like the guilty party filing a suit first, to pre-empt action by the victim.
上面这句英文,终归啰里啰嗦。说的既然是忠奸角色掉转,英文另有一句:the tables are turned,桌子掉转了。说的掉转,除了身分,还可形容强弱、输赢等局面。
