名人教英文：一词多义的post

post是多义词，又是常用的前缀（prefix）。post的其中一类意思和邮递有关，这种用法主要见于英式英语，美式英语则多用mail。邮政系统叫the post，香港邮政的英文名就是hongkong post。邮寄、邮件等也叫post，例如：

．please return the completed form by post (以邮寄方式).
．could you post (投寄) a letter for me?
．mr chan asked his secretary to open his post. （post表示一批邮件，是不可数名词。）

post的第二个意思是张贴通告，例如：the company posted a set of workplace safety guidelines on the noticeboard. 现在post亦可解作网上发帖：she posted her recent photos on facebook. 至于keep someone posted 则表示持续向某人提供最新消息。

post的第三义是机构职位，如：mrs lee has held several senior posts at renowned it companies. 而作动词用时，则有“调派（往某处）”的意思，通常用于被动句式，如：i was posted to the immigration department in 1996.
